Poker Etiquette

BetMGM strives to create a pleasant gaming experience for all players. We ask all players to adhere to certain guidelines as it relates to etiquette at the table with your fellow players. Failure to comply with game fairness and proper etiquette will result in penalties such as, but not limited to, a temporary account closure.

What constitutes poor poker etiquette?

  • Chat Abuse – Profanity, aggressive behavior, or otherwise offensive chat that disparages other players is strictly prohibited. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the offending player’s chat being suspended, and in some instances, completely banned.
  • Blind Abuse/Grimming – Repetitive behavior of sitting into a game and leaving before ever posting a blind prohibited. As it relates to game fairness, all players are afforded the right to equal opportunities at the table. During heads-up play, the act of consistently playing your button and leaving is prohibited. Putting the burden of the big blind on your opponent while never assuming it yourself during gameplay is against our game fairness policy. While one-off instances can and will happen, a concerted effort to intentionally target players in this manner is against our game fairness policy.
  • Offensive Screen Name – Your screen name is visible to all players. Please refrain from choosing a name that may be offensive to others.

In addition to receiving penalties for repeatedly engaging in the above behaviors, players may refuse to play with a player that is constantly engaging in unethical behavior. While BetMGM takes every measure to ensure the safety and security of our games, it is incumbent on the players to always conduct themselves in an appropriate manner.

Unfair Practices:

Unfair Practices are any practice, carried out by one or more players, with one or more accounts, which could put any other player not engaging in such activity at a competitive disadvantage, where the unfairness in such activity is due to its success being based to some extent on concealment or deception against such players. Engaging in any of the below offenses will result in an account suspension, permanent account closure, confiscation of funds, or any other action deemed appropriate by BetMGM.

  1. What is Money Dumping? - Money-dumping occurs when any player intentionally loses a poker hand to transfer their money or chips to another user via cash games or Heads-Up Sit & Go play. Disciplinary action will be taken if money dumping was found to occur, regardless or reason.
  2. What is Multi-Accounting? – Multi-Accounting is when a player attempts to use multiple accounts in one game. It is prohibited for a player (whether in the player’s name or another name) to have multiple accounts for the sole purpose of playing both accounts at the same time. A player may only have a single gaming account for each BetMGM skin. In states where multiple BetMGM skins are present, players are prohibited from playing poker on multiple skins simultaneously and from re-entering the same poker event across multiple skins with their other accounts.
  3. What is Collusion? - Collusion is defined as two or more players sharing and using their combined knowledge to gain an advantage, with the intent to take advantage of other players at the poker table. Additionally, players are to play their hands appropriately, regardless of any personal relationships one might have with another player at the table.
  4. What is Account Sharing? - Each player on the BetMGM platform is responsible for protecting their login credentials. Sharing account credentials and devices is prohibited under the Terms of Service of BetMGM. No third party (including friends and relatives) is permitted to use your account or access the BetMGM platform under your name. Any player who believes the integrity of their BetMGM gaming account has been compromised should inform BetMGM immediately. BetMGM holds no responsibility for any actions taken by a third party who gains access to any player’s gaming account. Under no circumstances will BetMGM be liable for any losses incurred by any player as a result of mishandling of a player’s access credentials by any person. All transactions and gameplay where your username and password have been entered correctly will be regarded as valid, whether authorized by you or not.
  5. Is extracting player profiles allowed? - Extracting player profiles is expressly forbidden. Certain companies offer for-sale programs specifically created to extract player profiles and then sell them in the form of voluminous player databases, with the promise that anyone who purchases these programs can use this information to their advantage against other players, by invisibly gathering information about You and then selling it to others to use when they play against You online.
  6. Is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) allowed? - All player actions taken on the BetMGM platform must be player-generated without assistance. BetMGM reserves the right to withhold funds of, and deny services to, any person using a prohibited tool or service. If a player is found to have used AI, they will be in breach of this provision, which will lead to permanent account closure, confiscation of their funds and additional actions.
  7. Are bots allowed on the BetMGM network? - If a player is found to have used a Bot in any way, they will be in breach of this provision, which will lead to permanent account closure, confiscation of their funds and additional actions.

For more information on any of the offenses above, please refer to our Unfair Advantage Policy found in our Terms of Service

Real Time Assistance (RTA)

RTA tools that use software to suggest to an active player what action to take (i.e. ‘bet’ or ‘check’) are prohibited. BetMGM reserves the right to withhold funds of and deny services to any person using a prohibited tool or service. If a player is found to have used an RTA or otherwise prohibited tool or service, they will be in breach of this provision, which will lead to permanent account closure and confiscation of their funds.
